Why Kisumu’s Milimani estate is on demand

A walk into the estate reveals spacious homes with well-manicured lawns. Milimani is also surrounded by fascinating natural scenery and evergreen vegetation.

To secure a three bedroom government municipal house in the estate, you will have to cough between Sh15,000 to Sh18,000 per month.

Although these houses were designed during the pre-colonial period, they have been well kept. Milimani Estate also has flats, most of which are two bedroomed. Many feature contemporary architectural designs that include ceiling fans, tiled walls and unique velvet carpeted floors.

Behind the Kisumu Law Courts, there are exclusive eight unit apartments with a swimming pool in the compound that are rented out for Sh80,000 plus per month. Most of the residents living here are businessmen of Indian and European origin.

Classy hotels and resorts

Milimani Estate also houses very important buildings that include the State House, United Nations offices, provincial administration offices and other high-powered non-governmental organisations such as Arc Kenya, Merlin and Ogra Foundation. The hood also boasts classy hotels, numerous resorts, guest-houses and ‘members only’ clubs. Among the big hotels in this estate include Sunset, Milimani Resort, Kisumu Yatch Club and Nyanza Club.

One of the reasons why Milimani Estate is so popular and sought-after is because it has a serene atmosphere that offers residents immense privacy. The road network is almost perfect with nearly every corner being accessible, even during the rainy seasons.

Officers from the Milimani Police Station are constantly on vigil and help to keep burglars and robbers at bay. Perhaps an important reason why security is so meticulously enhanced at this estate is the presence of the Central Bank of Kenya, Kisumu branch.

Residents have the added advantage of watching game and enjoying quiet picnics at the Kenya Wildlife Service Kisumu Impala Park.EASTAFRICANSTANDARD
