Donors give Obama School Sh2.7m boost

Senator Barack Obama Secondary School in Kogelo village received the donation of $35,000 (Sh2.7m) from the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), African Diplomatic Corps, African Union, African Professionals and the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, DC.

The funds are part of the proceeds from the Gala Night Ball held on January 20, to celebrate inauguration of Obama as the 44th US President.

Receiving the cheque, the school Principal Yuanita Obiero said the money would finance constructing additional classrooms.

"The classrooms will create room for more students to be admitted," she said.

The school is located on a piece of land donated by President Obama’s paternal grandfather.

Formerly known as Kogelo Secondary School, it was renamed in 2006 when Obama’s star kept rising.
